I am convinced being Army is a cultural thing; somehow we transcend into it being a way of life.
Most of us live two different lives, our Army life and our “real life,” and this is fucked up because why should we be living different lives? But simultaneously, it makes all the sense in the world. Why? Because absolutely no one outside of this purple bubble will understand what we’re going through at certain events, dates, and memories. What it means to miss a live, how hard and why we work when new releases are out, how we are willing to stay up all night if needed, and what fighting in Choea for votes mean… Absolutely no one will get it; you have to live it. Age is not going to be your friend, that is for sure, but if we could explain to them what means to be in this world, how our minds expand, how much we actually learn. How loved we feel.
Being here means you have a moral compass, some cultural understanding (or you will learn along the way…); you are open-minded, empathetic; of course, ethical.
I will always stand by the idea that there is simply no way people who are not incredibly smart can be part of Army; I genuinely believe this.
The things we live as a fandom are impressively intimate, which is a word I’m not using loosely today. Some people don’t understand certain parts of our core, jokes, words or struggles…
Listen: Three of my friends right now are sick, and their posts are: “I am sorry, Jimin”
“I failed Jimin. I am sick.”
“Don’t tell Jimin I got the flu…”
Graduates (no matter from what degree or level) I see them telling Namjoon how they have made it, and “Look, Joon, I graduated; I made you and myself proud.” “You inspired me to do it, and now I am here…”
We live another life where not seeing Yoongi genuinely makes us sad, it sounds ridiculous, but that feeling is real for us.
How do we even know Jungkook can be the most attentive lover of Army but the most scattered in his actual life? We are convinced JiminShi gives the best hugs, and there is not a single doubt in our minds about it, we just know it.
How do we know Hobi is the most resilient?
Why do we collectively believe Tae will always follow our chaos and fun? When did we learn that deep life talks are a Namjoon thing, but if we needed an ear, then Jimin or Yoongi are the guys? Why are we confident that Jin will keep even the darkest of our secrets without judgement, furthermore he’ll act like he never knew.
How are we consciously convinced that Yoongi will bail us out of anything stupid we did without asking questions?
See how we don’t live a normal life? And we don’t want it.
Jin is coming back soon, and our emotions are something that no one can understand, not even ourselves; probably some other fandoms, at some level. Maybe. Still, I have always said there is no relationship as the one BTS has with Army, and vice versa; that is indisputable to me.
So today (and every day), feel all your feels, know that no one will get it until they live it, and feel proud of having this in your life; you deserve it.
