Healing is getting a fun rework!
Enter a wisp-infused state and strike enemies to use their essence to convert your energy into health!
While damage cannot normally be dealt in this state, you can still BREAK enemies for extra heals!

I'm still hardcore struggling to get environmental lighting to blend well with my dynamic lighting...
But what do you think about these cool attack / teleport effects I was able to make in the meantime?

@DevLand95213410 It's not in my demo *quite* yet, but I've been working on implementing some nice dynamic lighting into my teleportation-based platformer!
I finished up with all the new movement animations and rework. Jumps transition into running and vice versa much better.
I'm also completely in love with the new falling animation. It's so smooth!

I followed this tutorial for the lighting base and then have been adjusting it as necessary. It'll be fun experimenting with it and creating some real pretty scenes with it!

After weeks of debugging and studying code, I have finally implemented dynamic lighting into Mizuki and the Crimson Moon!
I'm super excited to start doing more things with shaders and beautifying the game!

I have nothing to post for today because I got sucked into developing lighting and some other graphical features.
Here's some of the weird bugs I encountered during my coding struggles today!
A sprite dump and giant Mizuki.

Of all the animations that I reworked for Mizuki, the falling animation is the one I'm the proudest of.
On the left you have a graceful fall with movement from her hair, tails, and outfit.
On the right...two frames of sadness.

@kitoahin3D Polish is a continuous effort; itโs almost impossible to get it perfect first try.
Iโve found that when I let something sit a while and come back to it later, I end up making it much better than I originally thought it could be!
@sp3shoot The 1st one has better a composition and layout. As someone who doesnโt know much about the game, showing the cards help tell the viewer a bit more about whatโs unique about your game. The 2nd one looks cool but is a bit more generic in that sense.
Iโd choose #1!
@indiegameiacs Hey! Iโm CritsOnAStick (also a Richard!) and Iโm a solo dev working on Mizuki and the Crimson Moon! Itโs a 2D action-platformer all about teleportation and feudal Japan.
Hereโs a bit of what Iโve been working on most recently:

I spent some time reworking and adding movement animations and the results was 100% worth it! Mizuki's running looks so much faster and cleaner than it was before.
She can also scooch around now too!

Wow!
I just got a surge of followers and likes, definitely wasn't expecting that!
Thanks for being interested in my little indie game! It's all about teleportation, action, and yokai.
I have a lot of big plans this year, so I hope to see y'all again soon!

@RelicAbyss Thatโs great! Congrats!
Big win for everyone on the team.
I hope you all continue to see lots of success, especially when you do your full release (no longer in early access).
Very interested to see how the numbers look in the coming weeks and months.
@BeanJuiceStudio Daisuke โPixelโ Amaya, the creator of Cave Story, partly because one of my all time favorite quotes comes from his game, but also Cave Story is also just a masterful indie game and he made it alone. ConcernedApe would be a close second though. Talk about a labor of love, right?
@KyleDGamedev Thank you! Animations have been the trickiest to learn; that and backgrounds. I feel like I still have so far to go ๐ฅฒ. Focusing on one aspect of the art can really help with the learning process if you ever want to do your own art. There are tons of resources online too!
@LuckShiomi Thank you! Itโs taken quite a while to get to this point, pixel art is hard ๐ .
I appreciate the offer, but I already having someone doing the music for my game. Thanks for the offer though!
