"Some of the work is about learning about yourself, learning about what your patterns are. What do you react to? How do you react? What can you do instead? What can you do to soothe yourself? And some of it is about developing emotional/psychological resilience." #masculinity

Just watched first 3 hrs of Pam Bondi's testimony to House Judiciary Committee. As an adult still in the process of recovering from childhood abuse, I can honestly say it was one of the worst things I've ever seen in my life. Tears of rage at her monstrous denials and diversions.
"Our modern culture is obsessed with 'intelligence' in the narrow, brain-centered sense (logic, analysis, problem-solving) but our primary intelligence is actually rooted in the senses."

The Fractal Starvation
One of the most profound ways our modern environment fails us is the lack of "natural fractals."
These are the self-repeating patterns found in clouds, trees, coastlines, and mountain ranges.
Research in biophilia shows that when the human eye views these specific patterns, the brain produces alpha waves associated with a state of relaxed wakefulness.
Our modern world is composed almost entirely of straight lines and flat surfaces.
To your ancient visual cortex, a flat white wall is "nothingness."
It provides no data.
When you spend all day in a square room looking at a square screen, your brain is essentially starving for the complex, soothing geometry it evolved to process.
This absence of natural pattern leads to a subtle, chronic cognitive fatigue.
Short preview clip from an upcoming podcast interview during which I discuss the #MotherWound and other topics that I address in my work with men. The full video will be posted in its entirety on Feb 12 and I'll post the link for it here then.

It's okay to have your feelings without trying to interpret or translate them or take any immediate action. Just naming them and holding a space to feel them in your body, even if only in the most subtle way, is often enough to achieve a state change from the inside out.
Men need quality spaces to share their thoughts, experiences, ideas, and yes, their most deeply held secrets, the very things they know they are not "supposed" to think much less say aloud, without being shamed, inflamed, humiliated, manipulated, or "remade". #masculinity
I've just learned about a great new resource for men. It's a directory of men's groups which is available to everyone without charge at the link below. Check it out!

@TracesofTexas Almost forgot: I saw Joe Ely play the Austin Opera House on New Year's Eve 1982. Typical rousing set that ended at midnight with a big surprise when a high school marching band joined Joe and his band on stage for the closing song and everybody went nuts.
@TracesofTexas This hits hard. First saw Joe Ely Band at Paramount Theater Austin in 1981 opening for Chuck Berry. No idea who he was prior to that. Then saw him at Club Foot, Manor Downs, City Coliseum, Erwin Center (opening for Tom Petty), anywhere I could.
Wish I'd seen this one! RIP Joes.
@Rivenm7651@TracesofTexas Wowwww Steamboat. That was one of the only places in Austin where I didn't see him. Wonderful venue for live music. I'm sure that was a memorable show!
@DavidMcLemore1@TracesofTexas Could be, but based on the background and the outfits, I think it was probably taken at this show in Monterey CA in 1979. Same tour I suppose. Sorry I missed the Armadillo show. Great that you were there for it!
I discovered yesterday that TikTok is restricting visibility of this video and requiring login to watch it.
The reason given?
"Posts that some may find uncomfortable are unavailable."
What are your thoughts? Is this video too "uncomfortable" for a general audience to see?
Why are men less likely to attend therapy?
➡ We looked at the deep-rooted barriers men face.
➡ We built a clear and accessible pathway.
➡ We assembled passionate therapists.
➡ We launch the first dedicated directory to support men, today.
