@HenrikZeberg For a deep dive into where the U.S. stands now in a timeline toward authoritarianism, check out “American Democracy: A System Corrupted” on Amazon. It’s very concerning and well documented.
@RepThomasMassie@dandinohill The “why and how” explained in Richard Louden’s non-partisan book American Democracy: A system corrupted” following the events of the last 35 years that led to this.
People wonder why the price of oil isn’t higher under the circumstances. But the price is determined by paper trading on Wall Street right now. Speculators won’t bid it up too high because Trump can end the war at any moment. So the risk/ reward balance falls in the 80-90 range. Only when the physical supply is actually affecting consumers significantly will the price really start going up. And then Trump will be backed into a corner to end the war. Thoughts on this are welcome.
That’s why Kushner and Witkoff negotiate all the deals instead of the State Department experts. Ukraine negotiations, Abraham accords, now Iran, etc. That’s how he got about 2 billion from Saudi for his private equity fund. Just think how much they can skim as a middlemen or partner out of a 300 billion reconstruction fund?
@MarioNawfal Trump knows what it’s going to take to make a deal. He just can’t face that reality yet. And even he is going to have difficulty spinning what will be a painful deal.
@c_donners@MarioNawfal Good way to frame it, who cares they skim $1/bbl from there. Are we going to spend billions a month indefinitely to try to save the world $1/bbl on 20% of world oil (effectively 0.20/bbl.
@LukeGromen@HayekAndKeynes Plus blowing up Kharg island does not open up the strait. There is no good solution I can see. Or even a not so good solution. It’s just bad or worse than bad.
