That comment was obviously for males. His point is we tend to do it the opposite or as the most difficult we should be the first that we try, sound of a monk.

The best advice I have ever heard about discernment came from the father prior of the Carmelite Monks of Wyoming. He said that all should discern being a monk first. If that does not work, then a Diocese and priest. And finally married life.
