Mark Carney Will Use The Montreal Shooting To Give The RCMP The Power To Ban Any Gun They Want

On Monday a man walked into Montreal with what appears to be an SKS rifle and killed a police officer. Before the investigation was even complete the Mayor of Montreal was already calling for gun control. And today Mark Carney signaled that new legislation is coming.

But it is not what most people think.

Carney is not just talking about banning the SKS. He is talking about creating an expert-led system where the RCMP becomes the sole authority on firearms classification in Canada. With a stroke of a pen they could reclassify any firearm they want with no parliamentary debate, no vote, and no due process for legal gun owners.

We have seen this before. After the 2020 Nova Scotia shooting the Liberals used an Order in Council to ban over 2,500 firearms overnight. The CCFR is currently challenging that ban at the Supreme Court. And now before that decision even comes in Carney is already signaling the next round.
