Good to see a Purple Emperor Butterfly this morning with Terry Smith. Also seen were Marble White Gatekeeper Meadow Brown Red Admiral Small Skipper Ringlet Speckled Wood Large &Small Whites.
Come on @CALAHOMES, another Herts planning application in St Albans, where you are ignoring your own Urban Wildlife Strategy by proposing an unspecified number of pretty useless Sparrow Terraces instead of the promised one Swift brick per house? You can do better! #hertsbirds
Blocked Swift colony.
I've been ignored by the police, by the residents and I've been ignored by the scaffold company! nothing is being done about this it's an absolute outrage. Albert Road Ramsgate blocked Swift colony crime reference 20-0234.
The police actually HUNG UP ON ME!
Please retweet! ๐ฟ This August I am hosting a Nature Writing Camp in the New Forest alongside Andrew Millham and Alicia Hayden, supported by @cameron_b_trust . Really excited to provide this space for young people with an interest in nature and writing. Application link below!
Well done to @gonebirdin who started playing Swift calls this year and now has Swifts in his box in Stevenage. Another box has already gone up. Playing the calls greatly increases the chances of occupation. In the words of @SoSSwifts, Swift conservation works! #hertsbirds
No response from Royston BID to my two emails and comments on Facebook about this umbrella installation very close to active Swift nests, risking collision for birds displaying and entering nests. Very disappointed that they won't engage @roystoncrow@WriterHannahBT@Roystontown
There is a lot of bad advice being shared online about what to do if you find a grounded Swift.
DO NOT try to feed it
DO NOT throw it in the air.
DO put it in a large cardboard box with a lid and follow the excellent advice set out below #hertsbirds
Almost that time of year again for many tweets about Hertfordshire rookeries, but my main piece of advice after 10 years of surveying is to count nests later if you can. Subject to leafburst, best results are from the last week in March and throughout April #hertsbirds
Any idea what spider this is sorry about the poor photo but any help much appreciated. Taken at Tyttenhanger GPs in Hertfordshire on the29 May 21 @BritishSpiders
Thanks
Rick
