Thursday
I wonder if I have always spent half my thoughts on past experiences and not ever noticed because reminiscing did not used to hurt.
Maybe everyone walks with one foot in the past.

Wish You Were Here starts playing on the cafe sound system….
…and suddenly I’m walking by the river watching you laugh at the rain on your face.
The hardest thing about grief is the way it ambushes you.
The thousands of little landmines hidden in the everyday.

One the harder things about grief:
If I have a sad dream about Chrissie I wake up feeling crushed and desolate.
If I have a happy dream about her, it’s worse.

So I just scrolled through about 500 opinions on property prices in Australia.
Way over half were blaming immigrants.
Doesn’t matter if it’s true or not. It’s ideal growing conditions for the hard right.
@ChrisLynnHedges This line of reasoning terminates in some kind of argument for political anarachism. In case you hadn’t noticed we now live in cities of millions dependent on complex systems no one person can comprehend. We need to solve the governance problem not just the political problem.
He left out a critical point: open protocols. I know it’s dry but it’s the whole game. Twitter is closed. Mastodon and BlueSky are open (and even Meta/Threads is toying with interoperability.) Email providers can’t control email. Musk could never have subverted an open platform
1. Here are my thoughts on the pros and cons of staying on this platform.
Pro: We were here long before Musk took it over. We built this.
Con: He has used our creation to help elect a far-right autocrat, and build his own grim political career.

Twitter is the world’s burger joint/chip shop/kebab truck at 1am on Friday night where the drunk shit head’s who thought by some miracle they’d get laid demonstrating how loud they could belch congregate to yell racist obscenities and cat-call bar staff just trying to get home.
@PeterWMurphy1@lucymdonoghue@AlboMP The unit of representation in Australia was meant to be the seat, not the party. That ship sailed. I think the best hope we have now is to focus on policies. Just look around to see where focusing on leaders gets you.
I just realised I am looking at years before I can enjoy opening The Guardian over my morning coffee for a catch-up-with-the-world moment.
I wonder how many other Australians are going to start deliberately looking away just to protect our peace of mind
FFS I am a mid sixties male - but seeing Dick Smith go full grandpa Simpson ranting about renewables makes me soooooo wish we could be rid of all these arrogant old men who think they everything about everything
@BernieSanders@_rwgarvey Yep. It was about despair, and an unfairness (Not inequality per se, but the sense of unfairness and disenfranchisement it fosters)
This wasn’t lost in the campaign. It was lost in government.
Probably the day Obama decided bankers didn’t have to answer for their deeds.
@ChrisLynnHedges You are spot on in nailing the most overlooked or glossed over cause of MAGA… But it took generations to build an effective labour movement. And it is now effectively dismantled. There is no effective platform for the kind of action you are prescribing.
@evacide …also I’m 95% in your corner on privacy - and especially on the need to be able to conduct transactions anonymously. I have done a lot of work on digital identity systems.
I really admire your work.
@evacide Sorry for the misunderstanding. I did take your tweet to be pro-anonymity. There was, by chance, another immediately after - in my timeline that took the opposite position.
I probably should not have commented on that in reply-mode. Wasn’t thinking.
@RnA_EA Wow - one tweet against and the next tweet for. Both rational. Both in good faith.
The difference between speech and publication (or broadcasting perhaps) seems material.
