The book had a surprising amount of typos in it as well, which sort of fit my reading of the book as an attempt at a controlled narrative and wrought composition but checkered with fits of fissures and unreliability peeking through.
Was he hurt, angry, vindictive, frayed, depressed, comically gullible? I sensed he was all of these things at various points, like reading someone working out the stages of grief on the fly.
I mean, did he really need to publish her affairs in pursuit of full disclosure which isnโt even possible when the subject is dead? I oscillated between feeling sorry for him, being moved by him, and being put off by him.
