In our advanced Power courses, we often describe increasing clubhead speed like baking a cake.
Results depend on the quality and balance of three primary ingredients.
1) PHYSICAL CAPACITY
In Power Level 2, we teach a standardized power test to evaluate a golfer’s physical potential. This helps determine whether the athlete’s engine is capable of producing more speed, or if physical limitations are capping their output.
2) TECHNIQUE
When a golfer’s clubhead speed does not align with their physical capacity, the issue is often mechanical. Inefficient sequencing, casting, poor force application, or timing can prevent “available power” from ever reaching the club.
3) EQUIPMENT
If a golfer has not been professionally fit, this is often the fastest win. Optimizing driver length, loft, shaft, and strike conditions can unlock immediate distance by improving launch and spin characteristics. It’s the easy button.
Assess the ingredients first.
Then decide what needs to be improved.
Assess, don’t guess.
We recently came across a comment suggesting that the TPI screen only makes sense for fit, professional players. This literally could not be further from the truth.
In fact, we could argue that the TPI screen is most useful for the amateur golfer. Touring professionals often move at an exceptional level while many recreational golfers have real physical limitations which affect their swing.
The TPI screen is designed to help coaches identify those limitations quickly and understand exactly how they could be influencing mechanics.
Screen results create a clear roadmap for better movement, better coaching, better training, and ultimately, better golf.
Assess, don’t guess.
Every TPI Certified expert has access to the TPI Pro app which allows them to screen golfers, highlight the Body-Swing Connection based on results, and build a customized program that directly targets a golfer’s physical limitations.
By basing program design on screen results, we can be more precise with our training recommendations, allowing a fitness professional to deliver more efficient and effective workouts.
If you want to find a qualified coach to take you through the screen, visit the TPI Find an Expert map (https://t.co/HwKDybd4Vq). You can search by location, specialty and Certification level to find the right fit for your game.
One of the most common speed leaks in the golf swing can be the product of improperly fit equipment, but it isn’t always related to clubs.
It can be the shoes.
If a golfer’s foot is sliding inside their shoe during the swing, it can affect their interaction with the ground and “dampen” the ground reaction forces that help generate greater clubhead speed.
Fit matters, especially in our footwear.

@KriegVII It seems...... To this mere mortal, that perhaps, whilst the whirlwind whirls, the GOAT just signals to the crew, this was known, we've prepared, hold your positions. Calm is imminent. I have you.
@FearedBuck A very public reminder that human nature has dark sides. This very weak man will realize the error of his ways. But it may well take a lifetime.
@LouStagner So, temperature, humidity, altitude all need to be considered. European averages will be well below US averages purely based on these factors alone.
@Daniel_Rapaport Why do Americans feel like they have to do a marathon when going to Ireland to play? The best part of any round of golf is enjoying the local town or village afterwards. You won't have time to fart buddy!
