@irenevdwalt That sounds like it may cause me to cry…needles to say it has been added to my tbr
Also seems sort of similar to the Book Thief, which is one of my several favourite books
@irenevdwalt@_warrendakota and you can have a cottage core picnic and wear a dress one day and then drink black, bitter coffee and wear a suit the next. You're still you. Just because you're into an aesthetic doesn't mean you can and should now ONLY do and look what applies to it. That's so confining
@irenevdwalt@_warrendakota And people will cut off things that they love, but dont “fit” into their niche. Putting themselves into a box. Like to stop reading fantasy even though they love it and just read classics for the aesthetic. You can and wear waistcoats and a tie one day and sweats the next +
@irenevdwalt@_warrendakota Of course! If that’s truly your aesthetic/lifestyle that’s amazing and I adore it too! Just, people sometimes force themselves into boxes, just to fit in or feel validated by a desired perception, which is sorrowful.
@riddlewick I despise the term ‘dark academia’ because it has turned into yet another rapid trend cycle that has strayed so far from the values of passion for the arts and learning. Now it’s just fast fashion dupes of vintage clothing and pseudo philosophical captions on tik toks
@_warrendakota If thats ACTUALLY someone’s vibe then its amazing, I just mean sometimes they force it, as well as alt and indie and micro trends before that
@_warrendakota Like how people pretend to have read books to fit into the “dark academia” aesthetic just to fit into a niche and to feel validated by how they’re perceived and how they change their own perception of themselves, even though its all just boxes they force themselves into
