You might have heard about Boosted’s latest message to the community about letting staff go & will be under new ownership.
I wanted to get in early and let everyone know that Ride isn’t going anywhere, & Ride for Droid is still going ahead.

@Akasuna Ahh okay. Do you know if that board can connect to an app and the remote at the same time? If so I might be able to add support to Ride some day
@Akasuna Ohhhhh sorry! Not at the moment but that’s a really good point. I’m currently in the process of redeveloping the iOS and watchOS apps so I can try and factor this in. What board do you have btw?
Ride for iOS users in the same period have stacked up a total of 31000km (19262miles), but obvs Ride for iOS has been out for a few years now so it’s not a fair comparison yet (still no harm in some friendly competition though ;))
Collectively, Ride for Android users have already stacked up a total 268km (166miles) using the app :) the beta only opened up a few days ago so this is really cool.
Was just checking out a review (by @DKwan) of the Flexway Wave (👀) and Ride was in it 😍
The board looks pretty sick tbh. I’ve barely touched my longboards since getting the Mini X so probs best for me to stick with shorter boards like the Wave https://t.co/mDnRgNXjmr
Happy to announce the Ride for Android beta is now open to anyone who wants to try it! You can join the beta here: https://t.co/z0XvmfVGgH
You can leave the beta at any time by visiting the same link. In a few days, after keeping an eye on crashes etc, I'll release v1 fully.
@realAliHN Sorry, hopefully soon. I'm hoping to open it up to a public beta this week/weekend, and then shortly after release properly the first version :)
I’ve decided that although Ride for Android doesn’t look very Ride branded, I’m going to open it up to an open beta very soon and release v1 shortly after.
Tip: you can make the persistent Ride notification (required for reconnecting) less annoying by tweaking the settings so the notification gets added to the silent section and collapsed by default :)
@Stuart_Talbot I don’t think it does live chats on Reddit right? That’s where most stuff is but I don’t think there’s an API for it for 3rd party apps yet. Not sure if that works with Discord either 🤔
I’m generally really bad at replying to DMs or posts on Twitter and Reddit and I want to improve that. It’s tricky because I end up just using all my free time for coding rather than replying, but I know that replying to you all is important too :)
Before I can release v1 I have a few minor things to do:
- improved GPS filtering + a fix few ride tracking bugs (already in progress)
- anonymous analytics so I can keep track of stats like how far everyone has travelled combined
- a few other bits like new version notifications
Two reasons for this:
- people deserve a working app for their Boosted products, more than a perfectly designed app
- by opening it up and releasing it asap, I’m going to get more usage feedback from more people, which will help make the app better
So my plan is to set up my iPad (which tbh I don’t really use that much) so that all the channels of conversation I have with you awesome people (Twitter, Reddit, Discord) are the only notifications my iPad shows me, rather than randomly with other notifications on my phone(s)
Oh wow the whole time it was a feature in the Boosted app I missed lol you have to long-press on the light icon to get the options. I had no idea. Assume it’s the same for Beams with more options?
Turns out you can control the brightness of the Rev’s light 👀👀👀 also didn’t realise that Beams use the same Bluetooth characteristics as the Rev’s lights which means Ride for Android already supports Beams if I’m not mistaken :)
