Good morning Twitter... I am here to advertise my album this morning.
So, I'll start this campaign by sharing snippets from the tracks in the album. The Album is a Yorùbá spoken words album titled "Ọ̀RỌ̀"
Here's a snippet from Track 1... Please help me share this till it gets to everyone here who speaks/understand Yorùbá. It is full of wisdom, scientific research and philosophical teaching.
You can get full album for ₦5,000 at

YORÙBÁ INCANTATIONS
The statement "Ẹtà níí kọ́kọ́ tà kọ́mọ ẹranko ìyókù ó tó ta" is an incantation and not a proverb as you thought. It loosely means "The African civet cat will sell its merchandise way before other animals begin to sell."
There are three major types of incantation inm Yorùbá. They're ọfọ̀, àyájọ́ and ògèdè.
Ọfọ̀ is usually very short and coincise. It contains one or just few words. Something like "Àgbéró!" "Èèwọ̀!" "Dúró níbẹ̀!" You would notice that these are emergency commands like "Stop!" "Never!" and so on
Àyájọ́, as a precept, is a way of retelling a past event similar to the current situation. It includes details like how, when, why, and where it happened, as well as what happened afterward. Think of it like citing precedents in a legal case to help the judge make a fair decision. It's used to guide toward a similar outcome as the one in the precedent cited. It may be short or long but it will have one full sentence at least.
Example is the line in Ibrahim Chatta's Olókìkí Òru which is also quoted in Oriloye S.A's "CONTENTS AND FEATURES OFYORUBA INCANTATORY POETRY"
Lọ́jọ́ òpó yẹ̀ lỌ́yọ̀ọ́ Ilé
Gbogbo ay ló débẹ̀ kí wọn
Àfí Ìkele nìkan tó kọ̀ tí ò lọ
Ìkele ọjọ́ náà laṣọ pupa
Èèwọ̀ Òrìṣà
Aṣọ pupa, kìí bókùú wọsà
Èèwọ̀ Òrìṣà
Meaning:
The day the pillar crumbled at Ọ̀yọ́
Everyone was there to commiserate with them
Only Ìkele did not go with them
The Ikele of the day is Red cloth
It's a taboo!
Red Cloth does not accompany corpse to the grave
It's a taboo!
Ògèdè, however, depends on the unchanging laws of nature for its effectiveness. Many of these laws can be seen, tested, and proven through observation and experience, either by individuals or collectively by people.
Example:
Omi kìíṣàn kó bojú wẹ̀yìn
(The river does not flow and then turn back to the direction it's flowing from).
Should I continue?
