@RetronicGamer@TheVoidwalker09@LtMaverick27894 You’re missing my point, if you actually read the earliest books, there is no rivalry. Period. And it was a grudge against Chief from Silva and that was it. Nothing else. Future material took Silva’s grudge and made into ALL ODSTs feel like that, when that was never the case.
@MrTak210@LtMaverick27894 I should’ve specified, sorry, I meant the rivalry, not the ODSTs themselves. They’ve always been around since the first book.
@MrTak210@LtMaverick27894 They didn’t, and don’t. And Silva explicitly says it was his ODSTs that were killed, but he wasn’t that sarge there that order them to fight the Chief. They never had a feeling of being “replaced,” that’s a dumb retcon
@MrTak210@LtMaverick27894 You didn’t explain why that happened in the first place. They were Silva’s men and HE and HE alone had a grudge as an ODST. None of the other ODSTs throughout Reach or the Flood have any problems with Chief. This fact is ignored in later media to make a rivalry that never existed
@Gunfighter_124@Creetosis22 Okay, so you’re just rejecting evidence when it doesn’t fit your narrative. Got it. The guy who wrote the book (and 1-3 stories btw) literally said humans are forerunner, so he’s not insane.
@Gunfighter_124@Creetosis22 343 is a robot, following protocol, it’s not insane. 343 is also perfectly willing to kill humans to protect the ring, he can find another human to do it. He tried doing that in CE.
@Gunfighter_124@Creetosis22 You’re accepting a retcon. I’m not. That retcon was done to undermine the forerunner connection because in literally no uncertain terms 343 calls John “Forerunner.”
@MrTak210@LtMaverick27894 Alright can you actually explain what exactly is the rivalry in the fall of reach and WHY that happened? Because if you understand the context, it was never “ODSTs hated Spartans for no reason”
@Gunfighter_124@Creetosis22 He’s following protocol, not insane. He doesn’t have any reason to believe that he can’t protect the people he already has in order to activate the ring.
@MrTak210@LtMaverick27894 I’m talking about the early material, there’s no rivalry. That was manufactured later. In the original novels, only Silva hated Spartans, Chief specifically because he had a grudge. All 5 Bungie games never had any hint of a Spartan/ODST rivalry.
@Gunfighter_124@Creetosis22 This is Halo CE, the very first game. You’re retroactively using designs made a decade later to assume that’s what they were supposed to look like from the beginning. So no, he isn’t deranged, and nothing in the games state he is.
@TheVoidwalker09@RetronicGamer@LtMaverick27894 1. That was Ackerson, not the decision of ODSTs, who wanted Chief to fail. Ackerson isn’t an ODST, he’s ONI. 2. Evolutions released in 2009, way after the original novels released. It’s a retcon. There’s no ODST/Spartan rivalry in the games nor original novels.
@Gunfighter_124@Creetosis22 Also, ding dong, I said CE dev commentary. Where they talk about that line, “all of our lost history,” they were explicitly hinting at a human forerunner connection.
