Alonso Martinez played 30 minutes in the 8 games he was available for selection after his acquisition from Lommel last summer.

The little-used #NewYorkCityFC winger was moved to striker this preseason - primarily due to the lack of a back-up for Mounsef Bakrar.

He was an unused sub in the first 4 matches of '24 & his first start w/ City was in a 1-1 draw at #InterMiamiCF on 3/30 where he scored the lone goal (as a winger).

He scored a 2nd half hat trick as a sub v San Jose on 5/31 (as a striker).

Still, he did not "win the shirt" as his coach Nick Cushing would say until 6/28 v #orlandocity

Martinez has now scored 7 goals in his last 7 games & 14 in all.

He is second only to #Messi in goals per 90 minutes in #MLS

He had his 4th multi-goal game & was inches away from a 2nd hat trick on Saturday at Red Bull Arena.

His 1st half brace on 45+5 gave #NewYorkCityFC a 3-goal cushion v #RBNY
