Now I know why I prefer waking up so early: I grew up playing sports! All those early practices (sometimes 2-3x/day) teaches you discipline. Important skill for life & medicine. Reasons why we gotta keep extracurriculars at schools, not cut them out #sports #medicine #education

1/ Today, my intern had asked me to come in with her to interpret for a patient she had been treating. He was being worked up for a rare condition and was recommended for a paracentesis. He initially said no to the procedure. However, today was different. He was uncomfortable.

4/ I was no one special. Just another medical student rotating through. Statistically, I wasn’t supposed to be here. But, to him, I was his doctor. I was someone he related to. This is why we need more physicians of color to represent our communities. We are needed.

Since age 8, I could NOT wear blue in my neighborhood (rival gang color). 20 minutes away from Stanford.

I think about the privilege of wearing blue today, and all the kids growing up in gang neighborhoods who are too stressed to pursue their dreams #MedTwitter #education
