🗣️ New in EP Europace @EuropaceEiC
A new study using UK Biobank shows that sVCAM-1, an inflammatory biomarker 🧪, was associated with #AFib and #HF 🫀, independently of known biomarkers of HF and inflammation.
➡️ Potential to refine risk assessment and early monitoring — now needs clinical validation🏥.

🗣️ New analysis from #LOOPstudy
Screening for #AFib 🫀 with implantable loop recorders reduced #stroke 🧠 only in individuals with high polygenic risk for AF 🧬 — but not in those with low genetic risk.
➡️ Genetics #PRS may help target who actually benefits from AF screening❗️

🔬 @CTCPR_ FLUNITY-HD study, published in @TheLancet, reveals that the High-Dose influenza vaccine provides superior protection against hospitalisations compared to the conventional Standard-Dose.
Nearly 500,000 participants aged 65+ were individually randomized — the first study powered to demonstrate improved prevention of severe outcomes beyond just influenza.

📢 Excited to share our newest publication in the EHJ!
🫀 In >26k individuals without prior AF or HF, 1 in 7 had markers of atrial cardiomyopathy.
↗️ Markers were linked with higher rates of AF, HF, and stroke.

💡 Can ICDs prevent death in non-ischemic HF regardless of cause ❓
⚡An extended DANISH follow-up trial assessed this
🔎n=1116, median 9.5y
🔴76% idiopathic HF, 24% non-idiopathic (valvular, hypertensive, other)
🔴ICD vs usual care: no reduction in all-cause death (idiopathic HR 0.89; non-idiopathic HR 0.86)
🔴ICD lowered sudden cardiovascular death, effect independent of HF etiology (Pinteraction ~1)

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) affects 11% of the Danish population and remains the second leading cause of death, responsible for ≈12,000 deaths annually. Despite Denmark’s universal healthcare, social and geographic inequalities persist, highlighting the need for targeted prevention and system-level solutions.
Denmark’s strong registry infrastructure and public health initiatives provide unique opportunities to monitor, evaluate, and improve cardiovascular care. Continued focus on education, equitable access, and innovative prevention strategies is crucial to reduce disparities and improve outcomes. Public initiatives, such as the Heart Runner program, anti-smoking policies, and accessible cardiac rehabilitation, are already making a difference.

In a nationwide study assessing school performance in children with congenital heart disease (CHD) (n = 10 717) compared to controls (n = 229 738):
💡Children with CHD ranked 📉 than controls [0.47 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.46–0.48) vs. 0.50 (95% CI: 0.50–0.50)]
💡Higher risk of failure ⬆️(27% vs. 19%)
💡School performance worsened over time ⏳
👉CHD impacts school performance across all severities - closer surveillance and tailored support are needed
