What’s one thing you wish you knew before you started?
I’ll go first…
Although driving tractors is fun and probably most of our favorite job, it’s not what makes or breaks the farm.
The small farms that are still standing in 20 years won't be the ones that tried to out-volume the big guys.
They'll be the ones that found a niche, built something around it, and didn't wait for someone to hand them the opportunity.
Had a conversation in the checkout line at Walmart with a 90 year old man yesterday. He joined the military in 1955, moving to California with his newly wedded wife. They love barbecuing and he was stocking up so they could grill for Easter.
This man was in exceptional health, I would have guessed he was in his early 70’s.
I asked his key to a long life (expecting something related to diet and exercise) His response will always stick with me.
“I’m a devout Christian, and find every excuse possible to remain joyful”
I didn’t catch his name, but I hope his family enjoys their barbecue with an amazing patriarch and matriarch this weekend.
Farmers: I can’t make any money because crop prices are low
John Deere: Behold our 400hp mfwd tractor, it does the same thing your tractor has done for the last 25 years for a $1,000,000
