It was narrated from Ali bn Abi Talib رضى الله عنه that whenever the time for prayer came, his limbs would tremble and his colour would change.
He was asked about this, and he replied:
"The time has come for the trust which Allāh offered to the Heavens, the earth and the mountains, but they refused to bear it and were fearful, yet man undertook it. So, I do not know if I fulfill this trust well enough or not?"

"Once a loser finds a 'good' excuse, he will hold on to it, and then always use this excuse to explain to himself and others: why he can no longer do it, why he cannot succeed.
At first, he still knows how much his excuse are lies, but after repeated usage, he will become more and more convinced that it is completely true, and believe that this excuse was the real reason for his failure, and as a result his brain begins to be lazy and rigid, and the motivation to work hard to win in any way will be reduced to zero.
But they never want to admit that they are a person who loves making excuses"

Ibn al-Qayyim beautifully described the state of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah during his imprisonment, saying:
“He once said to me:
‘The true prisoner is the one whose heart is imprisoned from his Lord, and the true captive is the one enslaved by his own desires.’
“And when he was led into the citadel and entered within its walls, he gazed upon them and recited:
‘So a wall will be put up between them, with a gate, inside it is mercy, but outside it is torment.’ (Quran 57:13)
“And God knows, I never saw anyone living a life more pleasant than his — despite the hardship of his circumstances, the lack of comfort and luxury, indeed the very opposite of them; despite being imprisoned, threatened, and surrounded by alarming rumors. Yet, in all that, he was among the happiest of people, the most open-hearted, the strongest in spirit, and the most cheerful in soul. The radiance of bliss shone upon his face.”
