This ban is concerning on so many levels. The ban starts with TikTok, but that begs the question where it ends? It’s incredibly frustrating that the one thing congress can agree upon is the last thing Americans want. #BeachSMC

The line between monetizing on social media verses seeing it as a tool to engage with fans is blurry. Taylor is an example of seeing social media as a tool that benefits her long term success even if royalties in the short term are limited. #Beachsmc

@JMonteon55 It’s truly so frustrating to see our politicians choose to unify around the cause of banning TikTok, a platform that encourages creativity, expression, and education, instead of real world pressing issues. #BeachSMC
Social media is constantly encouraging heavy consumerism with the rise of trends and influencer marketing. It’s definitely not surprising that we see a similar effect around holidays and significant events.

It’s honestly a relief to see safety being prioritized for kids on social media. As social media and access to constant content continues to increase, we have to keep up with laws and policy that prioritize safety. #BeachSMS

@3lvira_csulb As an independent artist, I can personally share that TikTok pays me a grand total of $30 for every 1000 people who use my music in a video. I’m not sure what kind of deal UMG has, but nonetheless it’s not shocking it’s a tiny fraction of their revenue. #BeachSMC
Every year around this time, we seem to have this conversation. As a musician, TikTok has been the main contributor to my career success, so I personally do not want this ban to go through now or ever. #BeachSMC

Since joining TikTok, I have noticed a concerning amount of “alpha male” content that is often full of misogynistic ideas. Many young men look up to these creators which is concerning given that online discourse often leads to real life behaviors.

@vianneSMC Our generation grew up with an information overload with social media and I believe it truly overwhelmed people so much so, we never took the time to really digest news or do our own research. We let viral videos fuel our concept of the world, rather than researched legit news.
I’m so curious to watch this case play out, especially considering Section 230. Social media companies absolutely need to do more damage control for the mental health crisis regardless if they intended for such a crisis to happen or not. #BeachSMC

As someone who also dealt with internet trolls at a young age, I’m so fascinated by others’ experiences and ways of coping. Cyber bullying especially towards young public figures is a serious issue that law makers need to take on seriously. #BeachSMC

Had the pleasure of chatting with Amy from Courageous Conversations last week! The podcast episode is out now! Go give it a listen 🤭🫶🏻🦝 https://t.co/iUXlM8z1Mf
@ProfIsisRoberts I honestly think we will see a gap between generations when it comes to in person interaction. With so many kids spending most of their time on social media from as young as a baby, it’s inevitable that social etiquette is going to look very different for Gen Alpha. #SMCBeach
