JKUAT is hosting a two-day Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) Workshop on 22nd and 23rd July 2026, bringing together researchers, students, faculty, designers, developers, innovators, and industry experts to advance conversations on designing technologies that place people at the center of innovation.

The workshop provides a platform for participants to engage in keynote presentations, technical sessions, research paper and poster presentations, panel discussions, and interactive workshops exploring emerging trends in Human-Computer Interaction. ^DP

The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) under UNESCO, in collaboration with JKUAT, hosted an enlightening session on Grant Opportunities for Students and Faculty at the Innovation and Prototyping Integrated Centre (IPIC) on 28th October 2025. The event brought together students, researchers, staff, and faculty members eager to learn about international research funding prospects and capacity-building initiatives.

The session was led by Ms. Payal Patel, Associate Program Officer at The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), who outlined the wide range of funding opportunities available for postgraduate students and researchers. She emphasized that the program not only provides financial support but also opens doors to collaborations with international organizations. Its main goal, she noted, is to build capacity and equip researchers with the skills needed to strengthen their research and enhance their chances of securing funding.

What does it mean to design technology responsibly in today’s world? How can universities shape ethical, sustainable, and human-centered technology?

These were some of the guiding questions explored during a workshop hosted by the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) on Integrating Responsible Computing in Teaching and Student Projects. Held at AICAD, JKUAT, the event attracted more than 60 participants, including researchers, students, and staff, who engaged in discussions on how computing can be aligned with ethical and societal values.

Margaret Gichuhi, a Master’s student in Software Engineering, is currently developing a prototype AI-driven speech therapy solution tailored for children with Autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Her research delves into how social robots, when integrated with generative AI, can transform therapeutic approaches by delivering structured and responsive sessions using Pepper, a humanoid robot.
