소년은 낮과 밤이 교차하고 해가 뜨고 달이 지는 모든 시간 속에서, 답을 찾기 위해 스스로 길을 떠나야 한다는 사실을 알지 못했다.
그는 좀처럼 마음에 드는 답을 찾지 못했다. 세상에는 셀 수 없이 많은 아름다운 것들이 있었지만, 언제나 어딘가 부족한 듯했다.
그래서 진흙투성이가 된 몸을 이끌고 지하를 벗어나 황량한 폐허를 지나, 처음 출발했던 곳으로 다시 걸음을 옮겼다.
누군가 자신을 기다리고 있다는 것을 알던 소년은 가장 눈부신 것을 찾아 건네고 싶었지만, 두 손은 비어 있었다.
소년은 또다시 스스로에게 실망하게 될까 봐 낙담했다.
하지만 고개를 들어 하늘을 마주한 순간, 막 떠오른 아침 해가 눈부신 빛을 흩뿌렸다. 그 빛의 절반은 몸 위로 내려앉고, 나머지 절반은 눈동자 속에 담겼다.
처음부터 찬란한 빛을 품고 길을 떠났으니, 집으로 돌아가는 것이야말로 가장 완전한 해답이었다.
