C’è una domanda che prima o poi qualcuno dovrà porsi.

Perché agli ebrei di tutto il mondo viene continuamente chiesto di prendere le distanze da Israele, dal suo governo, dalle sue decisioni politiche e militari?

Se questo criterio fosse davvero universale, allora dovremmo applicarlo a tutti.

Chiediamo allora ai musulmani del mondo di prendere le distanze da Hamas e dalle altre organizzazioni jihadiste.

Chiediamo a tutti i musulmani di prendere le distanze dalle atrocità commesse in Sudan, dove la guerra ha già provocato oltre 150.000 morti secondo le stime riportate dalle Nazioni Unite, mentre anche le comunità cristiane sono state vittime di violenze e persecuzioni. Chiediamo agli iraniani nel mondo di prendere le distanze dal regime degli Ayatollah.

Chiediamo ai russi che vivono fuori dalla Russia di dissociarsi da Putin e dalla sua guerra contro l'Ucraina, che ha già provocato almeno 16.431 vittime civili verificate dall'ONU, un numero che non comprende le vittime non ancora documentate. ([OHCHR Ucraina][2])

E potremmo continuare: Siria, Yemen, Myanmar, Congo e tanti altri conflitti nei quali governi, eserciti e organizzazioni armate hanno provocato stragi e sofferenze indicibili.

Ma nessuno si sognerebbe di chiedere a una persona di una determinata religione o nazionalità di giustificarsi, dissociarsi o prendere le distanze da un governo semplicemente perché appartiene a quel popolo o a quella fede.

E allora perché questo viene chiesto così frequentemente agli ebrei?

Un ebreo italiano non è il governo israeliano.
Un ebreo americano non è l'esercito israeliano.
Un ebreo francese non è Benjamin Netanyahu.
Un ebreo argentino non è responsabile delle decisioni dello Stato di Israele.

Confondere ebrei, cittadini israeliani, Stato di Israele e governo israeliano significa attribuire una responsabilità collettiva a un intero popolo sulla base della sua identità.

Ed è proprio questo il punto.

Quando si pretende che gli ebrei, in quanto ebrei, debbano dissociarsi da Israele, mentre non si applica lo stesso criterio agli appartenenti ad altri popoli o religioni, non siamo più davanti a una semplice critica politica. Siamo davanti a un doppio standard. E quando quel doppio standard viene applicato agli ebrei in quanto ebrei, ha un nome preciso: antisemitismo.

La responsabilità è individuale. Mai collettiva.
