When we behold the work of Christ in the gospel, we are freed from both minimizing our sin and allowing our sin to crush us. We can see our sin for what it is and know that no matter how great, God’s mercy is greater still.
The favor of God on us in Christ is a shield against all of life’s evil. When the Creator Himself delights in you, everything else fades in comparison.
Your identity and ultimate reality are not defined by the earthly kingdom that you are a citizen of temporarily; they are defined by the heavenly kingdom that you are a citizen of eternally.

On June 19, 1865, Gen. Gordon Granger announced Order No. 3 to the state of Texas. This marked the end of institutionalized slavery in the United States, and the ideals of freedom and justice that our country was founded on were now officially recognized for all its citizens.
Jesus says that if we embody the life and character of the Beatitudes, we will inevitably face opposition from the world. But he promises that the future joy of the Kingdom makes it all worth it.
