Evolution is a giant trial and error game, lots of bets placed and only few successful or lucky ones forwarded to next generation. It’s power law, scientific method, and market theory at insane scale. #evolution
Everyone's measuring AI by how many people it replaces. Wrong lens. The steam engine ran a factory off one giant shaft. Electricity let every machine run on its own. AI is doing that to the company. The org chart is the last thing to find out.
We live in a crazy world
@OpenAI launches product at end of 2022
2023: $2 billion
2024: $6 billion
2025: $20 billion
2026: $40 billion+
Problem - your biggest competitor @AnthropicAI has done almost ~$40 billion just this year.
No one could have predicated this during the market crash of early 2022.
It’s simple - if you in 20s - ( founders of corgi - I believe are ) - that’s the only truth to believe - work your asses off 7 days a week, sleep in office etc. it doesn’t gaeuntree success - but you are young, and your energy is your superpower.
In your 30s - you should have learnt how to step of the gas and use your experience / network at leverage but still have muscle memory to go I. Hard mode during important times - at least 20-30 percent of the time.
@garrytan Also Marc is too old and probably hasn’t figured out some of the best talent is not in pac heights or Russian hill anymore but Hayes valley and Potrero/Yc mix. But I do agree that A and B are only right choices here :p
was enjoying a coffee today and overheard a first date that exemplified why dating in sf is cooked 🤦🏻♂️
> couple walks in, does light intros
> girl immediately asks guy what he does for work
> guy is a founder, currently fundraising, applying to yc, figuring it out
> girl completely drills him on his product, how much he’s raised, employee count, roasting his thesis
> guy seems fairly uncomfortable, still obliges, shares context, but tries pivoting to non-work topics
> girl continues re-pivoting back to critiquing his startup
> poor dude never gets a chance to learn or share anything personal about each other
> girl seems unimpressed then politely ends date
single straight dudes in sf: if you’re serious about dating, stop fighting statistics and just move to nyc 😄
Walmart pays its head of AI 2x what it pays its CEO. The role is one year old. The job isn't shipping models - it's redesigning how every function operates around them. Same shift industrial engineers caused in 1910 and product managers caused in 2005. Most companies still don't have one.
@shcallaway@sazabi The category most teams confuse with AI observability is "agent debuggability" — you can have perfect traces and still not know which prompt change broke production. The first tool that makes regression testing on agent behavior boring will eat half this market.
@swyx Vertical wins when the customer's data is the moat. Horizontal infra is fungible. You can swap inference providers without telling anyone. Vertical players accumulate proprietary signal every quarter no API call can replicate. That's the bet, not GPU-cost arbitrage.
