The worst part is if they do make a new Doom & it’s received poorly, MS would just either think no one wants Doom anymore or layoff even more people.
But if it does great, then MS will think the layoffs were a good thing & layoff even more.
It’s such a lose lose situation.

I get so many replies from people that don't seem to know the difference between an independent studio making a game, it not selling and having no choice but to lay people off to stay in business vs a multitrillion-dollar company that lays people off to "stay in business."

laying off experienced talent and possibly filling those roles with less experienced/expensive employees makes development slower and will ultimately lead to a lesser product.
