Resigning is easy. Staying, taking responsibility, fixing what went wrong, and bringing lasting change to the system is the harder job. That, to me, is true remorse and accountability.

But in a country where symbolism often gets rewarded more than outcomes, you are sometimes better off riding a buffalo to your village and pleasing everyone than building the road that transforms the village and arriving there in a Mercedes.

We often applaud the spectacle of sacrifice more than the difficult, unglamorous work of actually fixing things.
