Good evening from Mumbai.
For a moment, this almost feels like Italy.
But those terracotta rooftops, the harbour and the Taj remind you… this is Mumbai.
Munnar, Kerala: After a wait of nearly 12 years, the rare Neelakurinji flowers have bloomed in large numbers across the Korandakadu hills near Mattupetty in Munnar.
Reliance already commands structural monopolies and capital-intensive moats in core industries and is still engaging in low-margin price wars in the hyper-competitive FMCG sector against entrenched multinationals, interesting.
Media Release - Reliance Industries and Rolls-Royce announce strategic intent to partner and develop India's indigenous combat engine for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme
London / Mumbai, 14thAugust 2026: Reliance Industries Limited (Reliance) and Rolls-Royce (LSE: RR., ADR: RYCEY) today announced their strategic intent to partner and offer capabilities for the design, development, manufacturing and delivery of a sovereign indigenous combat engine for India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme.
As part of the partnership, Reliance and Rolls-Royce will explore the formation of a dedicated Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex that will be a centre of excellence for power and propulsion technology in India.
The partnership will offer a compelling proposition for joint development of the AMCA engine in India, bringing together world-leading technology and industrial execution capabilities. This marks a step towards realising the vision set out by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, for India’s defence ecosystem to deliver an indigenous engine to power the country’s fighter jet programme.
Statement from Sh Anant Ambani, Executive Director, Reliance Industries Limited: "India’s strategic autonomy requires sovereign capability in critical technologies. Our intent with Rolls-Royce is to combine their world-leading expertise in advanced propulsion with Reliance’s technology, manufacturing, scale and execution capabilities to build an indigenous aero-engine ecosystem in India. Together, we aim to build an enduring national capability that can make India self-reliant and, over time, globally competitive in advanced propulsion technologies. This is our contribution to the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of an Atmanirbhar Viksit Bharat."
Statement from Tufan Erginbilgiç, CEO, Rolls-Royce plc: "I welcome the opportunity to join forces with Reliance Industries, bringing together our century-long heritage in advanced engineering and proven engine expertise with their homegrown leadership in Indian industry. Together, with our existing partnerships and capabilities in India, this marks a major milestone towards building a robust, self-reliant aerospace ecosystem in the country."
By combining Rolls-Royce’s global leadership in engines with the established industrial strengths of Reliance, the Aero Gas Turbine Complex will build sovereign, end-to-end Indian capability across design, development, manufacturing, testing, production and through-life support. This will also unlock opportunities to explore wider collaborations across defence, civil aerospace, and new power and propulsion systems.
The alliance will support India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ vision for technology indigenisation and help position the country as a global leader in advanced propulsion capabilities.

Good run N Chandrasekaran, his best marathon by far.
Securing a unanimous vote was unlikely because of the underlying reasons of profitability, cash burning entities and the potential listing.

“Let me get this straight, you’re lending billions with cheese as collateral?”
“Not cheese. Parmesan. Parmigiano-Reggiano to be precise.“
“So, you finance this by packaging the Parmesan loans into Parmesan CDO A, which has part of Parmesan CDO B and both get put into Parmesan CDO C?”
“Yeah. The original loans are backed by wheels of Parmesan. Minimum age of 12 months. Some are 24 months. 36 months. 48 month. Hell, up to 120 months. Delicious. Millions of wheels. But Parmesan CDO C is a synthetic Parmesan CDO. A CDO of Parmesan CDOs. Parmesan Squared if you will.”
“What if it gets too hot in the summer and the wheels of Parmesan melt?”
“We’ll sell Parmesan credit default swaps.”
“C’mon! How much bigger is the market for Parmesan-backed sythentic loan and CDS products than actual edible real-life Parmesan that I can grate on top of my homemade spaghetti bolognese tonight?”
“At least 10,000x.”
“Ok, let’s say we have an underlying pool of $10 million in Parmesan wheels. How much money could be out there betting on your synthetic Parmesan financial products?”
“Probably $100 billion.”
“That is fucking crazy.”
“No, it’s awesome.”
Even now, when the plot
calls for me to turn to stone,
the sun intervenes. Some mornings in summer I step outside
and the sky opens
and pours itself into me
as if I were a saint
about to die. But the plot
calls for me to live,
be ordinary, say nothing to anyone.
