@Cosmalano @csferrie @mattleifer@boundstate I guess I come from a world where no one seriously thinks we are presently capable of building self-contained dilution refrigerators the size of a hockey puck and powering them via USB. But perhaps sincere observers really were that confused about the state of modern technology.
@Cosmalano @csferrie @mattleifer@boundstate Is the question really sincere? It’s probably a small computer about as powerful as a Chromecast.
The educational value is that it creates an important conversation about what makes quantum computers different from classical and the difficulties with black-box computing models.
Our giant optimisation paper has been published by @PRX_Quantum! Thanks to the team at @MQPhysAstro and @GoogleAI for all the hard work. #QuantumComputing

Our new paper shows that quantum neural networks are difficult to train if there is too much entanglement between visible and hidden units. https://t.co/obblLfu0Un
I'm very pleased to have co-authored an experimental paper! We show that efficient sampling techniques are practical in the calibration process for quantum hardware. Thanks to the experimental team from @QuantumIQC for their excellent work! https://t.co/NxHLXO8B8r
@MJBiercuk @quantumVerd In @quantumVerd's quote, we (quantum-favourably) assume the classical algorithm takes EXACTLY quadratically more steps than a quantum one. This suggests we need a better-than-quadratic algorithmic advantage or much more than a million qubits to see a quantum speedup in practice.
@MJBiercuk @quantumVerd We were careful not to make a claim about how well heuristic optimisation will work on a quantum computer in practice. Rather, we ask how costly it would be for a quantum computer to execute each basic step. It is the high cost of each step that is discouraging.

@BobNiffenegger@earltcampbell@skdh Lots of us are both honest and genuous. But we’re not loud. I at least prefer to remain quiet until I have something useful to say.
