And Misra confirmed, the government KNEW this for 2 years. They hid it during elections. The call only came once votes were counted.

This is what 12 years of suit-boot economics, crony capitalism, and GDP optics actually looks like underneath.

How BJP fooled the middle class.

1. They said there were ₹1.25 lakh crore oil bonds, so excise duty had to be increased. They raised the duty from ₹9 to ₹33 within just a couple of years.

2. In the name of those bonds, they extracted nearly ₹42 lakh crores from the public.

3. When crude oil prices fell to $30 to $40, they did not pass the benefit to the common people. Instead, they increased various taxes to keep boosting revenue.

4. When they got the opportunity to buy cheap oil from Russia, they allowed one rich businessman to buy that oil, bring it to India, and then sell it to richer nations. He earned around ₹45,000 crores, while the common people got nothing.

5. Then a minister introduced ethanol blending. Without public consent, petrol was mixed with ethanol from sugarcane. His children allegedly made profits in billions, while the common public not only got no relief, but also faced reduced mileage and damage to many vehicles.

6. Now, when a crisis is looming because of failed government policies, instead of making excise duty zero, they still want to burden the same common people.

7. They know that this time the public may not spare them, so now they have started appealing, begging, and blaming international markets.

For the last 12 years, it is the common public that has paid the heavy price for the sheer failures of this government.

Now they say other countries also increased fuel prices. Yes, because those countries did not loot the public when crude prices were at rock bottom.

Minimum wages and salaries in those countries are many times higher than ours, and they provide world class education, healthcare, transport, and multiple other benefits.

There was no flood, but the bridge still broke down due to complete lack of maintenance and regular checks.

His name was Lalit Mehta.

He was 36 years old. A civil engineer from Jharkhand who could have worked anywhere. He stayed in Palamu, one of the most corruption ridden districts in the country.

In 1990, he built software. Not for a company. He wrote a programme that made it nearly impossible for government contractors to inflate costs and siphon off public money. He gave it away free.

He built 125 small irrigation dams with local communities at nearly half the government estimated cost. He trained villagers to file RTIs and audit government work themselves.

In May 2008, he began a social audit of NREGA projects in Chatarpur. Out of 108 names on the payment register, only 8 had actually worked. Signatures were forged. Job cards were in the names of people who had migrated. One was in the name of a dead man. An entire 5 lakh rupees pond project was fake.

He compiled everything onto a CD.

He was travelling to meet Jean Dreze the next morning to continue the audit.

He never arrived.

On May 14, 2008, his body was found in the Kandra jungle. A belt around his neck. His face smashed beyond recognition. He was buried as an unidentified body before anyone could reach him. Villagers later identified him from his clothes and exhumed the body themselves.

He is survived by his wife Ashrita Tirkey, whom he married defying caste pressure, and two sons.

His father Jagdish Mehta still holds the CD containing the evidence Lalit died to protect.

No one has been convicted for his murder.

Today I met a 9th-grade student who was born and brought up in a Gulf country and later shifted to Indore, MP.

When he moved there, students mocked him just for being Bihari.

This was his first time in Patna. He said he had never seen museums like Patna’s. According to him, compared to Indore, Patna has better electricity supply and good roads.

He also felt Indore has strong PR, but the reality is different, you’ve already seen the drinking water contamination incident. Development is limited to certain areas.

Patna is also progressing well, especially with projects like Ganga Path becoming a livable urban space. We need stronger positive PR.
