Cyclists aren’t the ‘scourge of the streets’. They are mothers, fathers, grandparents and children all doing their bit to make Britain a healthier, greener and more liveable place.

#HCSWeek19 11:10am Formation of emboli that block the blood flow to the lung is a life threatening condition. The patient will now be given medication to thin the blood to prevent more emboli from forming.
#HCSWeek19 We then look for a mismatch in the images of the airways and the blood flow to the lungs 🔍The ventilation of the airways is normal but there are areas of poor blood flow. This patient has a pulmonary embolism. Read more here: https://t.co/OM5izWU6jm
#HCSWeek2019 The patient is now given the injection that we prepared earlier, which will show the blood flow to the lungs 💉 We will then scan the patient again for five minutes, but this time looking at blood flow to the lungs 🕙
#HCSWeek19 Now back to the scan...👇 For the first part of a lung scan we have to look at the airways to the lungs. Here the patient is being given a radioactive gas by one of our #HealthcareScientists 👨🔬
#HCSWeek19 9:30 am Once the radiopharmaceutical has been prepared, another technologist must check that the correct material has been used and that the correct dose has been prepared before we can inject the patient 🥼🥽
#HCSWeek19 Earlier this morning our clinical technologist started preparing the radiopharmaceuticals that we will inject into our patient later today. 💉 The air where the operator is working is filtered to ensure no bacteria can get into the material we are preparing!
#HCSWeek19 8:30am After the scan request comes in, our healthcare scientist checks the patients details, to ensure the use of ionising radiation is justified ✔️They will then check the X-ray to make sure the patient is suitable for the scan #HCSWeek
For #HealthcareScienceWeek we will be showing you what a morning in our Medical Physics department is like 🔬 This morning, there has been an urgent request for a scan... Stay tuned to see how the team work together to give the best patient care! #HCSWeek2019
Our Healthcare Science teams have loved showcasing what we do best to local college and sixth form students today for Discover Healthcare Science Careers! 👨⚕️👩⚕️We have loved meeting you all and hope that you will be joining us soon 👍 #NAW2019#HealthcareScience
