In this suicide, I stand with Professor Doolla. If a student is caught cheating, it is normal to admonish him & ask him to leave the room. If the student was harassed due to his caste, he should have complained to the SC/ST department. When we were kids - we were admonished by teachers, parents for our wrongdoings but our generation was mentally strong. I would request colleges to have mental health therapists for the wellbeing of the students.

IIT-Bombay द्वारा साहिल वाकोड़े की आत्महत्या से जुड़े अपने पहले के बयान के लिए औपचारिक रूप से माफी मांगना महत्वपूर्ण कदम है। कल हमने कहा था कि साहिल जी की मृत्यु के अगले दिन, 19 सितंबर को परीक्षा में मोबाइल फोन और अन्य आरोपों को लेकर जारी संस्थान के बयान पर गंभीर सवाल उठते हैं। अब IIT-Bombay ने स्वयं स्वीकार किया है कि जांच पूरी होने से पहले घटना की परिस्थितियों को किसी निश्चित रूप में प्रस्तुत करना उचित नही��� था।

IIT-Bombay में बीटेक (एनर्जी साइंस) के द्वितीय वर्ष में पढ़ रहे साहिल वाकोड़े केवल एक छात्र नहीं, बल्कि देश की सबसे कठिन परीक्षाओं में से एक JEE Advanced में AIR 614 हासिल करने वाले होनहार और मेहनती दलित युवा थे। प्रथम वर्ष में 8.5 CGPA हासिल कर उन्होंने अपनी मेहनत और प्रतिभा का परिचय दिया था। ऐसे प्रतिभाशाली छात्र की असामयिक मृत्यु ने न केवल उनके परिवार को अपूरणीय क्षति पहुंचाई है, बल्कि देश के प्रतिष्ठित उच्च शिक्षण संस्थानों में छात्रों की सुरक्षा, सम्मान, समानता और संस्थागत जवाबदेही पर गंभीर सवाल खड़े किए हैं।

IIT-Bombay द्वारा 19 सितंबर को जारी किए गए उस बयान ने उन जातंकवादियों को एक मौका दिया, जो ऐसे दुखद क्षणों में भी दलितों को नीचा दिखाने के लिए तैयार रहते हैं। अब संस्थान की माफी से यह स्पष्ट है कि जांच पूरी होने से पहले घटना से जुड़े तथ्यों को किसी निश्चित रूप में प्रस्तुत करना उचित नहीं था। ऐस��� संवेदनशील मामलों में संस्थागत जिम्मेदारी और अधिक गंभीर होनी चाहिए।

सोचिए, उन माता-पिता पर क्या गुजर रही होगी, जिन्होंने एक तरफ अपना होनहार बच्चा खो दिया और दूसरी तरफ उसी बच्चे को नकलची बताकर न केवल उन्हें, बल्कि उनके पूरे समाज को नीचा दिखाने की कोशिश होते देखी।
