My raw sewage stats for 2020
The number of raw sewage spills in my catchment:
2079 (9% worse)
Number of hours when spills occurred:
19952 (8% worse)
That’s 831 days. BTW that’s the ones we know about🧐 In this year the CEO the CEO earned £876k incl. a bonus of £224k.
My raw sewage stats for 2019:
The number of raw sewage spills in my catchment.
1786 times.
Number of hours when spills occurred
16474 hours.
That's 686 days or 98 weeks. And my failure rate for Phosphate is 88%. Let me just leave that there and see what @DwrCymru have to say.
@JGerrings@paulpowlesland@LondonPortAuth What the fuck is LPA doing here, probably the most
“unproductive” site to do what this UK vested interest company gets away with.
A few things to reply to from the comments:
- Re water quality: the PLA (despite having the powers to do so) have never once prosecuted a water company for illegal sewage discharge. Indeed, they make money from such discharges by charging for the right to discharge water into the Thames. Their harbour master has stated publicly that they PLA don’t accept they have any duty to stop rowers getting sick as a result of contact with sewage.
- Re currents & the strength of the river. Different activities could happen on different parts of the river. No one is proposing a paddling pool next to the London Gateway Port! However, swimming in the river is eminently possible on the upper tidal reaches (say around Richmond). There was also a proposal for a magnificent floating lido in central London, which would have been an amazing addition to the city, but which was sadly vetoed by the PLA.
- Cost: the PLA extracts money from the Thames, which could fund a swimmable Thames, but currently spends it on inflated salaries & pensions for its completely unaccountable quango-crat managers. I believe that Londoners should have some say on where they money generated from our river is spent, but there is currently absolutely no such accountability for the PLA.
A reminder that we cannot have this in London, not only because the Thames is too polluted, but also because we have left the tidal Thames in the sole hands of an unaccountable legacy organisation founded in 1908 called the Port of London Authority (@LondonPortAuth) which basically exists to pay its own inflated salaries whilst pretending that London is still the greatest port of the Empire. This organisation is generally useless, but quite effective at blocking both nature restoration on the Thames & the river actually being used by the people of London.
I almost choked on my coffee.
Emmas Howard Boyd, probably the worst chair of the @EnvAgency ever, and that takes some doing, has had a massive revelation on the road to obscurity and is currently lobbying Steve Reed about sewage sludge containing toxic chemicals, we dump about 3.5 million tonnes of it on to farmer's fields ever year.
Funny how she wasn't that driven when she was in the job.

The ocean is the planet's largest ecosystem and it plays a critical role in our lives.
Yet, humanity is treating the sea like a sewer.
Let’s #SaveOurOcean to save our future.
Wish for?
We already have it, Martin.
I wonder if we could get a tour of one of them, Cwrt Malle Dairy in West Wales.
2000+ head is 365 days indoors for life.
Maize / Forage / Glyphosate fed.
The current @NFUCymru farming strategy is driving us to more of this.

Letter from EA, Ofwat and Defra to Cambridge Water: ‘Your reported deficit reduces our confidence in your ablity to provide a secure supply of water, support planned growth (and) maintain abstraction to levels that will not cause deterioration in the status of water bodies.’
@Matthew_Wright It's directly because of people like Jeremy Clarkson, that agricultural land values have artificially risen, and as a result, pushed many farmers into the IHT bracket.
The idea that he's a champion for farmers, is both ridiculous, and insulting.
@Trying_Very@Matthew_Wright It is a point, that said, we already do depend on others but you are right we could change the thresholds to a number wher @JeremyClarkson takes the full 40%.
In the end he does telly, nothing more nothing less.
Sorry tax, avoidance telly.
Yes I went it the rally, but came here afterwards
And the two events back to back are fascinating - like, why aren’t we taxing ultra-processed foods that are killing us and our kids and overwhelming the NHS? Why aren’t we supporting high quality real food producers?
Spot on, James!
Let me take you to the silent 🏴 killer (the media have no idea & not interested) in once prime European rivers.
Intensive Dairy!
I’d love to give “farmer” @JeremyClarkson a tour, but he prioritizes playing with pigs & IHT issues.
A taster in 4 photos.
Heading to the Scottish Court of Session in Edinburgh this morning (starts at 10.30am) - thanks to my legal team for all their support

Salmon Is Not a 'Health Food' - Physicians, nutritionists and chefs need to wise up and stop promoting salmon as a “health food.”
