I have an FB friend who badly needed help because he has an arm injury and he needed an arm casts. I felt pity so I wish him well and gave him money for his arm cast.

Lo and behold on his IG story, I saw that he doesn't look like he has any injury. He's in a gym weight lifting.

I have a former student who badly needed money for his parent's medical expenses. I lent him some.

Months later, I was asking him. He said he's in Dubai.

Apparently his FB stories have shown he's in the Philippines the entire time.

To apologize and to be forgiven are two different concepts we interchangeably use. The former is the first step and the latter is the last step. However, these steps can be altered. The latter can come first with the former arriving later.
