The 4th Lavender Festival 2026 commenced at Bhaderwah with the inauguration by Hon’ble Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, celebrating the remarkable success of the Purple Revolution and the transformative impact of the CSIR Aroma Mission.

The festival, themed “Lavender Goes Global”, showcases how science, innovation and entrepreneurship are empowering farmers, startups and rural communities across the Himalayan region. From lavender cultivation and value-added products to startup innovations and industry collaborations, the event reflects the journey of Bhaderwah from a remote hill town to India’s leading lavender hub.

The occasion was graced by CSIR Director General Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, CSIR-IIIM Director Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, BCCI President Mithun Manhas, Prof. V.K. Singh, Dr. D. Srinivasa Reddy, Dr. Ajit Kumar Shasany, Dr. Suphla Gupta, Dr. Saurabh Saran, public representatives, scientists, entrepreneurs and progressive farmers.

Together, we celebrate science-driven rural development, sustainable livelihoods and India’s growing global leadership in the aroma sector.

VIDEO | CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine is set to organize the 4th Lavender Festival on June 6 and 7 at Government Degree College, Bhaderwah, under the theme “Lavender goes global”. The festival will celebrate the success of the Purple Revolution and lavender-based rural entrepreneurship in Jammu and Kashmir.

Director CSIR-IIIM Dr Zabeer Ahmed announced that the festival will be inaugurated by Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, who will attend as the Chief Guest.

Dr Ahmed said that under the CSIR-Aroma Mission, implemented with the guidance of Dr Jitendra Singh and Dr N Kalaiselvi, rural communities in Jammu and Kashmir have been empowered through lavender cultivation. More than 5,000 farmers and young entrepreneurs have benefited from the initiative, while over 50 fixed and mobile distillation units have been installed across J&K to support local-level lavender processing.

He said Bhaderwah has emerged as a major lavender cultivation hub under the Purple Revolution initiative, and the Lavender Festival has become a national platform showcasing the transformation brought by the CSIR-Aroma Mission in remote Himalayan regions.
