@titonka One of the things I miss most about DC...uniting with coworkers also from the mountain west or midwest and mocking DCs reaction to the mere hint of snow.
@lindaholmes Yes! Watching Dash and Lily, there was one scene where I literally yelled "Girl, where is your coat?!?" And found myself genuinely worried she was going to freeze in the NYC winter.
@annehelen Over 1,100 of those cases are in my Wyoming county alone (Albany). A full 3% of the County currently has COVID. With exponential growth it is hard for me to imagine how bad this could get.
@KatecBowler Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamont. I also think H is for Hawk is a beautiful exploration of grief while not being specifically about grief.
@KaitlinCurtice An unexpected hard part is the huge number of people that have lived in the town/region for most of their life, so no shared experience or empathy for that kind of transition.
(And as others have said, loss of anonymity and small businesses with weird hours)
@KaitlinCurtice For me it was moving back to a small town after being in DC...so maybe less shock??
The best part: how quickly I can be in and out of the grocery store. Two years in and I'm still amazed by this
@RevJesKast I work at a library and still can't get my books back on time (but thankfully we don't charge fines on books)...I'd say better to hold out for the day your library gets rid of fines.
I’m always struck by how “nice” & “kind” are commonly conflated when they are very different.
Niceness is related to being agreeable, while kindness has to do with character—you can be “nice” without being kind.
It’s kindness that’s a fruit of the Spirit and a quality of love.
"Make a place to sit down.
Sit down. Be quiet.
You must depend upon
affection, reading, knowledge,
skill — more of each
than you have — inspiration,
work, growing older, patience,
for patience joins time
to eternity."

Latest episode of @NPRItsBeenAMin is everything that Esquire piece is not. We go to East Oakland ahead of the anniversary of #Parkland, to talk about the everyday gun violence that plagues black and brown kids throughout the country.

@audreyassad This album has been my go to for many months. It has helped me through a pretty rough year. I'm so thankful for your words and your art. Your view of the world has enriched mine ❤️
@LauraJeanTruman "I did a bunch of imperfect shit as bravely as I could" may in fact be the words I want inscribed on my tombstone.
Also, 💯 for doing the hard things. Bravery makes the world better, if only because it seems to be contagious.
Gmorning from the alto section
never front and center
but taking on the hardest, weirdest notes with a smile
filling out the chord
so you can sing the melody
take a solo, love
