In @VitalCityNYC, we outline how COGE can shake New York out of its inertia by speeding up hiring, modernizing permitting and procurement, streamlining smaller capital projects, and updating outdated rules around landmarks and curb space.

What should Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s Charter Revision Commission prioritize? @abundance_ny's Robert Joyce and Catherine Vaughan propose seven charter reforms.

Last year, NYC completed the most apartments in a single year since 1965, leading all big cities in both completions and proposals for new homes.
The key? Zoning reform that brought thousands of new units onto the market.

In college, I wrote a thesis about how pro-Palestine activism in Egypt created the networks and skills that laid the groundwork for the 2011 revolution. And now that seems to be the case for NYC politics.
This, from @patrickgaspard last year, is key to understanding the rise of the populist left in recent Democratic primaries from NYC to Maine and now DC
"Foreign policy" may rank low on polling priorities for voters. But a willingness to be frank about Israel's violence in Gaza has become a litmus test of moral authority and a gateway to trust on issues like tackling affordability. The result is a sea change among blue coalitions
Housing is one of the great crises of our time, and young people know it.
New York’s restrictive zoning rules and high construction costs have made housing scarce and exorbitantly expensive.

Today I learned that I live in the “canyon of mediocrity,” but to me, more importantly, it's an apartment and its near the subway! https://t.co/oD0Ff4wuGu
@NYCMayor's Block by Block plan is a major step toward building New York out of its housing crisis.
It sets serious housing goals, calls for more homes near transit, backs tools to finance NYCHA repairs, and takes aim at New York’s sky-high construction costs.
Zohran just cited Minneapolis, Austin, and Auckland as cities that lowered housing costs via upzoning
certified ball knowledge, Auckland is a deep YIMBY cut
The Abundance New York 2026 Voter Guide is here.
This June, New Yorkers will vote in primaries that will shape whether our city and state build more housing, improve transit, deploy clean energy, and make government work better.
Democrats have provided reflexive & unconditional support to Netanyahu & Israeli governments, even as they undermined the values we claimed to stand for.
It's time to end taxpayer-funded support & condition arms sales to end the occupation & salvage a 2-state solution.

This is a hard article to read, but I hope you'll do so. I've spent some time reporting on widespread rape and other sexual violence of Palestinian male and female prisoners by Israeli authorities, and the article is now published. The assault victims were warned not to give speak of what they endured -- they were sometimes told they would be killed or raped if they gave interviews -- but they found the courage to do so. One man described being raped three times in a single day in Israeli prison, the third time after he tried to protest. A young woman said the guards would come in at the beginning of each shift and strip her naked and abuse her. Another reported that she was shown photos of herself being raped and warned they would be released unless she cooperated with Israeli intelligence. Even three children who had been detained told me they had been sexually abused. Look, whatever our position on the Middle East, we should be able to agree on being anti-rape. Sexual assaults were horrific when Israeli women were targeted on Oct. 7, and they're equally horrific when Israeli authorities use them against Palestinians day after day after day. We should be able to find common ground in opposing rape. Here's a gift link to the article: https://t.co/aMMHId49OO
