Electoral reforms? A classic conflict of interest, yes, but w/ the current momentum of the CJP, it’s achievable. Ensure leaders w/ integrity + ethical conduct + clean public records, & corruption, poor policymaking & weak accountability will begin to improve, 1 reform ata time 👍
One of my favorite authors has always been Hemingway, and he had said, quoting another author (probably GBS), that “youth is wasted on the young.” Definitely not in this case. 🪳🪳🪳
How many economists does it take to change a lightbulb? None. A government friendly economist will simply publish a paper arguing the darkness is a sign of robust growth.

Can you please enlighten us on why 127 cuts were recommended for the film Panjab '95?
The same film, now renamed ‘Satluj’, has been taken down from an OTT platform in less than two days. The CBFC has no jurisdiction over OTT platforms or international releases.
Panjab '95 tells the story of Jaswant Singh Khalra, a man who exposed documented human rights abuses and paid for it with his life. If a film based on documented facts cannot be seen by Indian audiences, then the public deserves to know why.
This sends a very direct message to filmmakers and production companies: if you're paying homage to a great personality from a minority community, you'll have to face the CBFC.
Journalists should be asking the people running this censor board some hard questions. Why are some politically insensitive films able to pass with ease while others spend years in limbo?
A red carpet for Kashmir Files, Bengal Files, and Kerala Story. Roses for Dhurandar 1 & 2, a fictional documentary/explainer for the unthinkable and the unexplainable.
How does it feel to feast on four years of a director's career?
In Nehru's India, this would have been litigated in court. If filmmakers cannot tell the stories of people who stood up for justice without years of obstruction, what kind of cinema are we encouraging them to make?
Jaswant Singh Khalra Abducted again,
This time by the CBFC
A referendum for a new development model
To clarify its own stance and unite its ranks, the left must propose a referendum to adopt a national solidarity tax targeting billionaires and centimillionaires

New from me: Habermas was the last of the great postwar philosophers… the most irreplaceable because he was the one who never gave up on the Enlightenment bet: that reason, properly understood, is the only reliable instrument of emancipation we have.

@sharanbanerjee@SupriyaShrinate Strategic autonomy. Sectors like air defence aren’t just about jobs, they’re about sovereignty, supply chain control, tech transfer & decision making autonomy. If production lines in India operate under foreign direction w/o meaningful Indian control, that raises legitimate Qs.
Thoughtful essay about @Harvard professor Michael Sandel and his efforts to encourage thoughtful, nuanced conversations about morality in the public sphere. I think he's right that people yearn for this: https://t.co/EQrHQNOZJ9
