@Marian_Woodingt Speaking from experience, my music teacher gave me plenty of opportunities to work with them one on one if I was having problems. As a teacher, you can have a certain pace with your class but you can also have lunches or office hours open so that students can come to you.

@Marian_Woodingt To answer your question, all students learn at different paces and styles. I know that the VDOE has quite a lot of topics we must cover in a semester which can feel overwhelming but ultimately, you want your students to master what's being taught.

@tomalesky The steps you could take to advocate for this course is doing your own research based off of this reading and formulate your ideas on how you would want this class to be run and the topics you would want in this class and talk to the director of the School of Music.

@tomalesky What a great question! I believe that having a special education course would highly beneficial to SoM majors because while we may have a little SpEd discussed in our classes not all of the MuEd majors may fully understand the depth of what the disabilities and inclusions entail

@tyree_mekhi Hi Mekhi! This is a very unique outlook and a good question to ask. On one hand, having specific music classes for students with disabilities would have definite benefits such as having more flexibility to experiment to see what works best but also that can come with exclusion.

After reading the Hammel and Hourigan reading, my burning question is; how can music teachers best help disabled students to succeed in poorly funded schools that lack the resources such as an aid. #JmuMusTech

And with that, if a school system were able to get this technology what if the music teacher can't use it? Because personally coming from a poorer area where the funds/technology for music are lackluster I have been wondering this for quite a long time.

@Jacob_anderseen Hi Jacob, in regards to your question, as corny as this may sound music can be made up of really anything and depends on the interpretation of the person creating it. For example, when I was in music theory, we listened to “music” being made from helicopter sounds and grass.

@marissa_tay1or Hi Marissa! So in regards to your music technology question, when I was student teaching in an elementary school my senior, the teacher used an application called Quaver music. This curriculum had 200+ lessons for grades k-8 with interactive technology and easy to use.
