@OleTimeHardball Vintage Steve Carlton, maybe had the best lefty slider. In his book, Ted wondered why pitchers didn’t throw the slider more, said it was the hardest pitch to hit. Close seconds: Chris Sale, Koufax, Randy Johnson.
As a parent in a baseball-obsessed family, with a near 15 year old player who is highly knowledgeable about his equipment, I’ve bought the latest in USABaseball bats for Little League, and now now the latest BBCOR bats as he’s gotten older. Tripp can tell me from 10 rows up what bat our hometown ETSU player (or opponent) is using, and can usually tell from the TV coverage of SEC games what model the bat being used is. This year for him it’s a Louisville Slugger model, last year a Marucci. And he had to have the Victus Pencil bat, too, which despite looking exactly like an oversized #2 leaded pencil is a really good bat.
But he (and I) are well aware of what’s going on with the new torpedo-shaped bats in MLB and all the damage they are causing to pitchers so far this season. So when our bat vendor of choice, https://t.co/csb9c7Spvk, sent out an email today that they were changing their name to https://t.co/8nkHkIysJU, I bought it hook line and sinker. Went to the website right away to see just how much this bat would cost me before the questions started. I had also read they were not yet readily available to the public.
But there at the bottom of the email was the fine print… “just kidding,” and “torpedoes coming soon.” Got me.
@ETSUHoopsNation You’d have to ask Mister how he did it, but he had two shots… a quick release floater, AND a hang-in-the air delayed release shot like this one… that are the best I’ve ever seen a guard of any size have.
Musket Bowl at David Crockett HS tonight vs Daniel Boone HS. By God’s grace this is my 40th doing sports medicine coverage; I started covering these with Dr. Dale Whitson right as we started residency. Back in the day they were in the Dome but the sunset tonight is spectacular!
@ETSU_MGolf@Delta Oh my goodness! Imagine if you weren’t in the NCAA top-25…!! Was on a trip to Pebble Bch with friends and no kidding one of them had an iron come out on the baggage carousel by itself at San Jose Airport, followed by several other clubs…soft bag cover ripped to shreds.
Took my son to see Ft. McHenry in late December; he is standing on the outer wall of the fort. Zoom into the panoramic pic, and the Francis Scott Key bridge is easily visible, ~4 miles from the fort and roughly where Francis Scott Key’s boat was that he watched the battle from.
The Intermediate Solo win wasn’t all Laney wanted, but was still very much worth the trip to the National Baton Twirling Association AYOP Worlds at Notre Dame/South Bend. Her coach, ETSU’s feature twirler Lexi Maust also had a top 11 in Collegiate! She’s big time! Congrats both!
Last evening we lost our beloved 15 year old dog, Barkley. He came a year before the twins arrived, just in time to help us raise them. Words cannot really express what he has meant to us, but we’ve all decided that he would want it known that he never bit anybody on purpose.
Basketball royalty in the house at Freedom Hall tonight with former NBA and Arkansas great Darrell Walker, who is the head coach of Arkansas-LR. Won a NBA ring with the Bulls in 1993. Another great, former Alabama great T. R. Dunn sang the National Anthem.
