@lauriewired We’ve had FT in Memory (ECC) and IO systems (ZFS) for quite a while. CPU FT was the point of the old Tandem servers, but workloads have changed to distributed for cost effectiveness. Now the question is mapping AI across multiple systems for this lost FT capability.

The Fallacy of Grand Conspiracy:
Hurricane Milton's record-breaking intensification has got people scared, and rightly so. But it's maddening to see so many obv engagement-farming accounts going viral right now by suggesting that this is in some way INTENTIONAL... I kid you not, there are accounts out there spreading the claim that it is some kind of weapon, presumably created by some shadowy cabal. And the gullible are falling for it in their thousands.

Let's actually dig into this, because the mental gymnastics required to believe such a thing are Olympian: Instead of the sufficient (not to mention far simpler) explanation that hotter climate => hotter oceans => stronger hurricanes... you have to accept that 1) not only does humanity have some novel and secret technology capable whipping up hurricanes at whim, but 2) that there is also a sufficiently aligned group of people able to unilaterally do it... BUT ALSO 3) that humans are insufficiently capable of *accidentally* heating the climate through their polluting actions (because again, you have to throw out the simple climate change explanation, and indeed, the overlap between those who believe "the globalists control the weather" and "climate change is fake" is near perfect).

It's absurdly self-inconsistent. So why would anyone fall for it? In part, because most of us like to think of ourselves as special detectives. But in this case, I think it also comes down to fear -- it's much scarier to accept a reality where most our environmental problems are caused by a LACK of coordination, rather than an over-abundance of it (which such a hurricane-controlling cabal would represent). For many, it can be overwhelming to realise that decentralized human incompetence can cause such massive negative impacts on our world.

But you can’t fix a problem if you don’t have the right diagnosis, and while I too would prefer a singular enemy cabal of supervillians to blame for all our problems (would be far easier to defeat), we have to accept the far more likely reality that no singular group is really behind the wheel of our increasingly wild weather... unless of course, we can blame this all on Occam himself, poor bro must be spinning so hard in his grave, maybe that's where all this extra atmospheric energy is coming from.

Tl;dr - excessive conspiracy theorizing is making everyone retarded, so we need a new version of occam's razor for modern times:

Don’t ascribe to grand conspiracy that which can be explained by distributed incompetence.
