As another school year closes and we are preparing students to move forward with continuing hopes and dreams, I remind them to Fight (for what is right), Love (humanity), Live (fully) in every aspect of their life. What will you tell your students?
A1: In #tlap we refer to this as "Pre-heating the Grill!" Drop steak on a cold grill...nothing happens. Drop it on a pre-heated grill and it SIZZLES!!!! Make your content SIZZLE!!! #122EdChat
@burgessdave Educate myself on, practice with and incorporate the use of one new app into my lesson plans next week for my students to use for demonstrating their understanding of at least one learned concept. Destination....... "technology central".
@TechieTeachOtt Tiffany, I love trying new things too. And make plenty of mistakes. And I love it when my students think of a better way to do or explain a concept. It tells me they are focused and wanting to learn.
@burgessdave Daily reflection is one way to know where we are as a class and determine if what we did during class moved us in the direction we think we are pointed or sent us off in a different direction. Students should also reflect on their progress every day.
@burgessdave I agree that progress is found outside our comfort zone. I just told my students today that if they feel comfortable in our classroom they are not expanding their "learning zone".
@burgess_shelley Everyone needs a plan/ destination / vision/ goal to work towards achieving. Teachers should establish class "destinations" early and include their students in the decision and planning process. (Plan to execute and then execute your plan!)
Thanks for the great idea Sara. Really appreciate it. Limited time and last minute adjustments but I did something similar for my 5th graders associated with general drought issues. Putting your idea on my books for next year.
I'm in the market for STEAM ideas that are applicable to our area. This is great for New Orleans, flood areas. Any ideas for helping California's water storage systems? I'm putting my 5th graders to work on it when we return from Easter break. https://t.co/OkunkJ8xPw
The Plano Corp of Engineers are working hard on new flood wall technology. We have challenged our 3rd graders to come up with a model of a flood wall to save New Orleans from hurricane flooding. #learningisfun
I am busy seeking ways to motivate my students as we dive into the deep end of the state testing pool. It is sink or swim time...... My students have worked hard at learning to swim,,,,,,,, : )
@edutopia I would agree. It is not about speed. It is about accuracy and basic information understood and readily available. Too many students don't know their facts and spend too much time on that, losing the focus on the concept being taught.
@SOLEatHome @mdmetan My assignment has much to do with exposure to and practice of the concept of kindness. Some students learn almost every thing with or without a teacher's help. Most students need instruction. Either way, encouraging kindness is a good thing in my book. : )
#tlap
A weekly homework assignment to my 5th graders is to commit a random act of kindness and sharing it with classmates on Monday. We write them on daisy chain slips and link them together in an attempt to go wrap our room in kindness, as many loops as possible.
@SOLEatHome The reality of it to me is that students need to be taught about and practice concepts. So if they are not learning about kindness at home at least they are exposed to it in a classroom setting and are asked to be aware of it and open to the opportunity to practice kindness.
@jmattmiller An example of my Maverick teaching..
Our school had water damage to several classrooms, resulting in some serious repair. I borrowed our safety committee's safety helmets, distributed tape measures and turned my students into property insurance claims adjusters and contractors.
#HydroFlask
Have a Hydro Flask, given to me as a gift, that seems to have a defect on the inside stainless steel finish. Please advise on returning/ replacing. Thank you
