🚨‼️Something I genuinely think deserves a conversation:

Mbappé is scoring at a ridiculous rate for Real Madrid. Nobody can question that. The numbers are insane.

But why did Madrid feel like a much better TEAM with Benzema, even when Benzema wasn’t putting up these kinds of numbers?
I think the difference is that Benzema never played like the entire attack had to end with him.
He would drop deep, connect midfield with attack, drag centre-backs out of position, combine with the wingers and create space for everyone around him.

Look at what happened with Vinicius. Benzema didn’t just coexist with him, he helped create the conditions for Vini to become one of the most dangerous players in the world.

Benzema could score 30, but he could also make the guy next to him score 20.

With Mbappé, sometimes it feels like Madrid are becoming too obsessed with feeding one player.

And that’s not even necessarily Mbappé’s fault. If you have a player that good, obviously you’re going to build around him.

But there’s a difference between building AROUND your best player and making your entire attack DEPEND on him.

Benzema was the focal point without making everyone else feel secondary.

That Madrid attack felt fluid. Players changed positions, combined, created for each other and Benzema was usually the guy connecting all of it.

Mbappé can finish a season with ridiculous numbers and still leave you wondering whether the team itself became better.

That’s why I’ll always value Benzema’s Madrid years differently.

Football isn’t just about how many goals your striker scores.

Sometimes the best number 9 is the one who makes the other 10 players look better.
