February 2025: Digital Violations, Identity Impersonation Attempts, and Hate Speech Targeting Palestine Supporters
Sada Social monitored over 972 digital violations on social media platforms in February 2025, including violations targeting Palestinian content, hate speech, incitement, and identity impersonation attempts.
Last month, Meta platforms committed more than 45% of the digital violations, including two violations on WhatsApp. TikTok followed with 34%, X (formerly Twitter) with 15%, and YouTube with 6%. For the first time, Sada Social also recorded a digital violation targeting Palestinian content on Canva, a design and production platform.
The center monitored 213 digital violations (22% of the total) targeting journalists, media organizations, cartoonists, activists, and human rights defenders. The restrictions included complete account deletions, restrictions on access and posts, limits on interaction and publishing, blocked ad revenue, and restricted shared posts on Instagram.
In February 2024, the center documented 40 cases of identity impersonation targeting Palestinian journalist Bisan Odeh on Facebook. It also monitored organized posts across public pages, personal accounts, and fake profiles promoting gender-based digital violence and defamation campaigns against several female Palestinian journalists and activists.
Sada Social documented 451 inciting posts in Hebrew, English, and Spanish related to the forced displacement of Palestinians and the starvation of Gaza residents, aligning with official political statements from the U.S. and Israeli governments. These posts also called for the displacement of Palestinians from the West Bank and incited violence against Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and those released under the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
Meanwhile, Sada Social successfully restored and unbanned 15 journalist accounts on TikTok through its communication channels with the platform.
