Ahead of Saba Saba, I'm reminded of a powerful insight from Mamdani, 1996: power is organised and often seeks to fragment resistance. The challenge therefore is not only to resist, but to remain organised, united, and principled.

"We raise our families on this soil. Since the adoption of the Community Land Act, we have not seen any significant changes; we can use it, but we have no power over it"
For sustainable development, we should empower communities not sideline them

10 years of waiting is enough. Our communities possess the Indigenous knowledge & tools to manage their territories, but they need legal security
Let's accelerate the #CommunityLandAct2016 implementation. https://t.co/s14Vd5xRhF @DLCI_Kenya@mpidokenya@KituoSheria@NamatiKenya
Yesterday marked a significant milestone in the journey towards securing community land rights in Kenya.
The launch of the #SajiliArdhiYaJamii campaign brought together communities, government, civil society, development partners, and land rights champions united by a common goal: accelerating community land registration and ensuring the promise of the Community Land Act becomes a reality for all.
As we celebrate 10 years of the Community Land Act, we reaffirm our call for faster registration of community lands, stronger tenure security, and inclusive development for communities across the country.
Watch the highlights and join the movement.

Community land registration is the backbone of development for pastoralist communities and Kenya's drylands.
The energy, passion, and commitment displayed at the #SajiliArdhiYaJamii campaign launch demonstrated that the movement to secure community land rights is stronger than ever.
Together, we are calling for faster registration of community lands and full implementation of the Community Land Act to unlock sustainable development, strengthen livelihoods, and secure the future of communities.

Through the #SajiliArdhiyaJamii Campaign, communities in Kenya urge the government to make it easier to register & get title deeds for their land.
The 2016 Community Land Act opened the door for communities to receive land titles, but only 64 out of 1,000+ have received so far.
Why does a #communityland title matter?
Look at the Kamuthe Community in Garissa County. As the first former trustland in Kenya to receive a community title, they proved that a title deed is far more than just paper; it is an instrument of justice.
Moving from "legal invisibility" to recognized ownership has empowered the community to;
🔒 Protect their Territory: Stand firm against land grabs and external exploitation, securing safety from dispossession.
🌾 Govern their Resources: Take control of managing their rangelands and vital natural resources.
🌍 Build Climate Resilience: Design and drive their own strategies for sustainable development.
💼 Negotiate with Strength: Sit at the table with investors from a position of legal and economic power.
"When we got our title deed, we celebrated because that showed that the land is ours."
Kamuthe has shown it is possible. It’s time for the government to accelerate this process for ALL communities!

Registering community land currently can cost up to Ksh20 million per community, a sum far beyond the reach of most communities which tend to be politically and economically marginalised. #SajiliArdhiyaJamii#RegisterCommunityLands@StandardKenya

@Moadow@NamatiKenya “Community land registration is not just about a title. It is about dignity, security, self-determination, and ensuring communities have a seat at the table when decisions are made about their lands”

Community-led land processes ensure that those who live on and depend on the land are the ones guiding how it is identified and managed. #SajiliArdhiyaJamii#RegisterCommunityLandsNow
Community lands remain central to Kenya’s social, ecological, and economic future, covering approximately 60% of the country’s land mass and supporting the livelihoods of an estimated 10 million Kenyans.
