Hiring missteps aren’t a new challenge, but they’re getting trickier to avoid.
On the surface, candidates seem stronger than ever. Resumes shine, interviews impress, and credentials look great. Yet once the real work starts, the cracks often appear.
@SHRM calls this trend “skillfishing,” when someone looks more capable than they truly are. AI tools, interview coaching, and inflated qualifications make it easier than ever to seem job-ready, even when the skills just don’t run that deep.
The result? Resumes are polished but less reliable. Interviews test performance over potential. And employers are finding it harder to hire with confidence.
It’s a reminder that behind every credential, it’s still human capability that counts most.
