I was there when the community first started the Diwali celebrations
A huge community success that @Leicester_News sought to take over…
Now? We’ve got closed shops and empty restaurants ❌
But we’re still celebrating because we WILL make this event a success again 🎉
What a difference a year makes…
This time last year up to 30k people filled our Golden Mile to watch the Diwali lights being switched on!
Today…closed shops and empty restaurants 😬
Glad to have kicked off Diwali with @dianecank145 and @rita_patel_ on Belgrave Road 🪔
Seems that the Diwali lights will be switched on this Thursday…without a celebration.
I hope the community and local businesses still make an evening of it and show @Leicester_News the big mistake they made!
@ShivaniRaja_LE will you be there??
Leicester City has won its appeal against a decision that an independent Commission had jurisdiction to consider an alleged breach by the Club of Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs).
While continuing its genocidal assault on Gaza, Israel has launched its largest invasion of the occupied West Bank since 2002 — with armoured vehicles, bulldozers, fighter jets, drones & ground forces.
Enough is enough. The UK government must end all arms sales to Israel now.
UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer says 'things will get worse before it gets better' as he continues attacks on previous government https://t.co/yZP16s8oSt
A kick in the teeth to communities in Leicester.
I’m sure that £10m spent on Haymarket or the £££ on unnecessary roadworks is really looking silly now…
There will still be fireworks, entertainment and 6,000 lights, but because of rising costs, #Leicester's Diwali celebrations will now take place on one day instead of two.
Everyone is welcome to join us for #Diwali Day on 31 October.

Our new MP, @ShivaniRaja_LE, promised to keep Diwali at two events.
Our City Mayor, @CityMayorLeic, has been dead set on cutting one of the biggest celebrations outside of India.
If the politicians don’t stand up for our communities, what do we vote them in for? 🙄
