@AmiDar In the founding papers of UN from 1945 (UN Charta & Declar. of Human Rights) we find those „naive idealistic“(?) approaches. After WW2 there was consensus that war-caused suffering has to be avoided. It’s imho naive to follow the law of might is right, since it leads to horror.

As part of a longer conversation, someone just messaged me: "...those on the other side of the border—whether in south Lebanon or in Gaza—certainly don't share your idealism and your dreams of peace..." And as I am reading that, I get this note from a friend in Beirut: "Hi dear Ami. Thanks for checking on us. Really appreciate it. We are all fine. I pray for peace and pray that all this madness will stop soon and cooler heads take over the process. My regards to all your family. Be safe."

What can I add? Anyone who generalizes, and who thinks any of this is "simple," is wrong.

Collective humiliation is the most underrated force in international relations. Whenever a country or group is hit by a violent attack, ask yourself who was humiliated and how widely and deeply. That will give you a sense of how hard it will be to return to normal (or "normal").
