The authoritarian training we have received as children makes us susceptible to manipulation by people older, famous and/or in a position of spiritual authority.

Many of us Nigerians have been trained to outsource our voices to those who hijack them for personal gain. Then we fight one another because we’ve been collectively fooled a few. It’s why we show more vim to one another than the criminals robbing us of our collective commonwealth.

It’s also why we feel validated when a Celeb or someone with a large following appears to take our side in the fight for justice. Such people usually use us the populace to negotiate better conditions for themselves while leaving us high and dry. We then start again while time passes by.

The real protest will have no leader, no celeb, just Nigerians who are tired and are willing to die.
As long as we expect people to validate our voices, we will remain at the mercy of these criminals.

A friend of mine has been quietly fighting a very aggressive form of oral cancer since 2022. He is a private person and reaching out for help took everything in him. He has already gone through radiotherapy and is now struggling to complete the chemotherapy he needs before major reconstructive surgery.
