In 1859, W.L. Mackenzie and other supporters paid to have the remains moved to the Toronto Necropolis and a fifteen foot tall monument was completed to honour them in 1893. #cdnpoli#onpoli#onted#roadtorebellion
Samuel Lount was born in Pennsylvania in 1791. He was the eldest son of Gabriel Lount, an English immigrant who came to the US as an indentured servant & Philadelphia Hughes, the direct descendant of two passengers who arrived on the Mayflower in 1620. #roadtorebellion#onted
His last recorded words were, “Be of good courage boys, I am not ashamed of anything I’ve done, I trust in God, and I’m going to die like a man.” Lount was hanged as a martyr of the rebellion, and buried in a pauper’s grave in Potters Field. #onted#onpoli#cdnhist
